Task
1. Writing Strategies. What is the tone of this article (formal, informal, argumentative, objective, informational, entertaining, etc.)? What do you base your answer on? Provide examples of language and sentence structure choices that support your opinion. How well does the tone suit the content? Could the authors have made their argument more convincingly using a different tone?
2. Researched Writing. In a journalism class, you have been discussing the pros and cons of "good news" versus "bad news" reporting. You prefer the strategy of reporting on positive and uplifting events because the regular news seems so depressing and full of doom and gloom. As part of a researched essay explaining your choice, you are looking for counterarguments you can present and then refute.
3. What information from this article would you use as a basis for presenting counterarguments to your claim advocating for positive news reporting? How would you refute these counterarguments? Do these counterarguments cause you to question your support for "good news"? If so, why? If not, why not?
