4. From chapter 8:  Discuss the growth of Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s, explaining how the city became a model for urban development in the entire nation.

5. From chapter 8:  During the 1920s and 1930s, the arts and architecture played important roles in California's culture and influenced the country as a whole. Give examples of this development from music, literature, film, and architectural styles. Discuss how they reflected or responded to the different needs and interests of Californians.

6.  From chapter 8:  During the Great Depression, California politicians offered a variety of ways to deal with unemployment, unionization, and social welfare needs. Give examples of progressive Republican, moderate to conservative Republican, Democratic, and radical proposals or policies. Which seemed to be most popular with Californians, based on their voting patterns?
