Problem
The nurse that administered a wrong medication at Vanderbilt Medical Center. The nurse was criminally charged in 2019 and earlier this year, had her nursing licenses revoked. There are plenty of articles that discuss this incident so please feel free to research. As we look at creating a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and safety, think about this incident.
Did the institution treat this appropriately? Should the nurse be charged criminally? Did the system set this nurse up for failure by broken processes, technology, etc.?
What are your thoughts on the case? Do agree with the article? Why or why not? Did the organization respond appropriately? What impact will this have on the culture of the organization?
