Assignment Task:
Consider and describe a specific behavior in which you engaged during your emerging adulthood into adulthood that involved taking a huge risk that could have led to disaster. Some examples could be drinking and driving, or getting into a car with a drunk (even buzzed) driver; trying something that could have led to disability or death like bungee jumping; or when you engaged in behavior while in a crowd in which you would not have engaged had you been alone. Contribute a behavior that you feel comfortable sharing in this forum. I realize that some of you may say "nothing I did would have led to a disaster", so, if that is the case, consider an incident that led to irreversible consequences, whether they were good or bad. With this discussion as with the previous one, some have indicated that they do not have such situations to share. Again, if that is your case think of someone else who may have had such an experience and tell their story. Do not share who the person is and answer the guiding questions below from their perspective.
What did you do? What were your feelings at the time? In retrospect, would you do it again?
Here is an interesting twist for you to think about: what would you do if you knew that your child was about to do the same thing? What would you do and say if your child said, "But, YOU did it. Why can't I?" What would you do or say?
