This is a story of Lucia, a woman living in the 1950s working as an assistant fashion designer. She was a hardworking, independent woman and received praise and promotion for her work attitude.
Lucia is engaged to her childhood friend Dante. At one dinner where their family are present, Dante's mother who is tactless, laid out her plans for Lucia after their marriage. She is supposed to quit her job and stay at home to take care of her family and children, while Dante will be working in their family business.
Hearing this, Lucia did not like the set up decided by her future mother-in-law. As a working individual, she tried to talk to Dante's mother, but the latter only accused Lucia that she does not love Dante as she is not willing to give up her job for him and their future family.
This conflict continued and resulted to some family feud. In the end, Lucia made up her mind and decided to hand over the ring back to Dante.
Question 1: Given this situation, do you think Lucia's decision to leave Dante will give her a good life? Or is it better if she followed Dante's mother and continued their marriage?
