What if patient has trouble sleeping due to his chronic pain

Problem: You are seeing a new patient who was just discharged from an inpatient psych unit after a suicide attempt. During your assessment you find out he has been very depressed related to his chronic pain that he has been experiencing since MVA when he broke 8 bones. He was in a pain management program, but his doctor closed up practice and his PCP does not want to prescribe him anything for his pain. He has been advised to just take ibuprofen or Tylenol. He also has a history of using THC 10 years ago. He reports being hopeless and helpless, has trouble sleeping due to his chronic pain. How would you help him? What would you prescribe? Need Professional Help?
