Problem
The events of the last few years have left us with no shortage of reasons to feel anxious, sad, afraid, or angry. The 2020s have brought a tumultuous presidential transition, ongoing racial tensions, economic and familial losses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, and natural disasters here and abroad. Although solutions to/recovery from major life setbacks are neither simple nor easy, daily emotion regulation strategies can help us to stay motivated in school and work and improve our overall outlook on life.
Drawing from your own experiences as well as the research on affect regulation described in your Section 6-8a-c of your textbook, what have you found to be the most effective strategies for down-regulating (minimizing) negative emotions during these unprecedented times?
