What happens during paradoxical sleep

Question 1. Amber is a participant in a psychophysical study and is having her absolute threshold for brightness measured. Describe the procedure for determining this measurement.

Question 2. Ashley has been complaining of sleepiness throughout the day and trouble staying asleep at night. During a sleep study in a laboratory, Ashley cannot effectively enter paradoxical sleep due to interruptions in her breathing. Explain what happens during paradoxical sleep and what could be wrong with Ashley.

Question 3. Ed has been a truck driver hauling petrol and fuel (gas and diesel) for a number of years. He says that after working with petrol and fuel so much, he can't smell it anymore. Discuss what effects are at work in Ed's life, and how this could be dangerous.

Question 5. The Uberman sleep schedule is a method of "hacking" your brain into falling into REM sleep within a couple of minutes of falling asleep. This requires taking six, 30-minute naps throughout the day for a two-week period of time. If you had a friend who wanted to try this out, what consequences would you warn them about this procedure? What benefits would you describe to entice them back into the wonderful world of sleep? Could this be done for a working adult?
