Assignment Task:
1. I would definitely agree with the branch of feminism known as the liberal feminist movement. Prior to reading this chapter, I viewed feminism the same. I recalled there being different branches due to the fact of learning about the history behind feminism in school. I think everyone has a right to have their opinions and apply them in a proper manner. Everyone has the right to choose what way they want to live their life regardless of their gender. Liberal feminist believe everyone has rights and believes you should express yourself as well. They like to excel through education which helps the aspect of empowerment. Liberal feminists seem to be neutral but believe that your life should be lived by the choices you want to select. These beliefs align closely to myself because I believe in fairness. I express my opinions on what I believe would be the best decision in life without forcing anyone to side with me. I am more laid back and just want to be calm about the approach. It's more like peace that I would rather reconcile with. Liberals seem to be in the middle about most things but stand with their opinion known as well.
Question: What feminist movement would you align best with? If so, why?
2. Feminism is a socio-political movement that seeks to achieve gender equality by challenging and dismantling the systemic oppression and discrimination that women face in various aspects of society. It aims to empower women, promote their rights, and advocate for their equal treatment and representation in all spheres of life. Feminism not only addresses issues such as gender-based violence, wage disparities, and reproductive rights, but also recognizes the intersections of race, class, sexuality, and other identities in shaping women's experiences. It is a diverse and evolving movement that encompasses a range of beliefs and approaches, but at its core, feminism is about creating a more just and equitable world for all individuals regardless of their gender. After reading the text my view has been expanded to see that there are so many forms of feminism that I didn't even know existed. The branch of feminism that stuck with me the most is the global feminism. " Also called transitional feminism, global feminism is a movement of people working for gender equality across national boundaries. Global feminism contends that no woman is free until the conditions that oppress women worldwide are eliminated."Global feminism aligns with my life due to its fundamental belief in equality and justice for all individuals, regardless of gender. As a college student, I have been exposed to a variety of perspectives and experiences that have shaped my understanding of the world and the inequalities that exist within it. Global feminism not only acknowledges these inequalities, but actively works towards creating a more equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. By aligning with global feminism, I am able to advocate for the rights of women and marginalized communities on a larger scale, and contribute to the fight for gender equality both locally and globally. In doing so, I am able to live out my values of inclusivity and social justice, and work towards a more just and equitable world for all.
Question for the class: Do you think the bones of feminism have changed with society and the identification of women?
