Q1. What stakeholders are you taking into account when you decide which industries to support (oil and gas, solar/wind, electric vehicle production)with government funds(subsidies, tax breaks etc)?
Q2. What factors go into which stakeholders you need to prioritize at any given time?
Q3. In a democracy (Canada has elections every four years) why is it difficult to solve a long term problem like climate change?
Q4. What would happen if Canada banned the use of fossil fuels for transportation and heating/cooling by 2035?
Q5. What parts(if any) of the Pagano Model can you see in action in the governments decision making process?
Assignment task 2: Here is the Pagano method of six clear questions to help decide the ethics of your decision. No need to know the "correct title" of each method just how they may help you decide.
Q1. Is it Legal? Good place to start.
Q2. Cost/benefit analysis. This is the Utilitarian approach, the greatest good for the greatest number.
Q3. The categorical imperative. Do you want this action to be universally available to everyone.
Q4. The light of day test. Would you be proud if your actions appeared on the front page of tomorrow's papers or across social media?
Q5. Do unto others or "The Golden Rule". Is this how you would like to be treated in this situation?
Q6. The ventilation test. Get a second opinion from a trusted friend or advisor who is not affected by the decision.
