While the recording industry continues to be aggressive in its war on piracy, having sued more than 20,000 people for copyright infringement since 2003, some of its vic- tims have been equally aggressive in defending themselves. Catherine Lewan, a former KaZaa user, settled the lawsuit brought against her by Sony BMG, and then turned around and ?led a class action lawsuit against Sharman Networks, the company that cre- ated KaZaa. Lewan claimed that users were defrauded into believing that downloads from KaZaa were not only free, but legal. And, in 2007, Tanya Anderson, plagued by a lawsuit against her by RIAA, ?led suit against Atlantic Recording Company, Capitol Records, RIAA, and MediaSentry-the software used by the recording industry to ?ne copyright infringers-accusing them of illegally investigating thousands of private citizens.
