Description:
The transition into parenthood is a complicated one and brings with it a mix of emotions, challenges and gifts. The decision to become a parent is a deeply personal and individual journey that is influenced by many different factors.
Instructions:
For this problem, students will answer the following reflection questions:
i. What are some of the factors that influence an individual's decision to become, delay or choose not to become a parent. Provide at least one - two specific examples
ii. What are some of the ways that having a child transforms the family system?
iii. What emotions do you think a parent experiences when they discover they are having a child?
iv. As a human services professional, what is one strategy or resource you could use to support new parents and/or families?
