Problem
A. Is it reasonable to assign some responsibility to the members of the GMA for having a role in the current obesity epidemic in light of their predatory advertising techniques to children? If not, why not? If so, what should be done regarding the wide availability of unhealthful foods? Keep in mind not all households in the US have computers with which to research nutrition information and the education level of the US populace, on average, is only that of a middle school education.
B. Does the government have the right to more closely regulate the types of foods that can be purchased with tax dollars when given to recipients of TANF or WIC given the fact that a lifetime of unhealthy eating habits is strongly linked to diseases of lifestyle like heart disease, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. At some point, persons with these chronic diseases will need medical treatment and will have further financial burden for tax payers. If not, why not? If so, what kind of restrictions should be placed on benefits received?
