Problem:
Cynthia, who has worked as a cashier for 5 years at an Ontario clothing store (that has never closed all or part of its business, and that has a payroll of $2 million), has been fired because she was rude to a customer. Her employment contract doesn't say anything about termination. What does the employer owe Cynthia on dismissal in the following two different circumstances? Make sure to provide details and to explain both of your answers.
(a) The customer was rude to Cynthia first, and Cynthia has never had any negative performance reviews. (b) Although the customer was rude to Cynthia first, this is not the first time there have been complaints about Cynthia, and she has been warned several times about the need to not be rude back to customers.
