Discussion Post: Royal Proclamation & Treaties
As a result of the colonial wars, the defeat of the French, and the beginning of British rule - the Royal Proclamation and Treaties come into effect. Ojibwa chief Minweweh voiced a general sentiment when he told the British:
"Although you have conquered the French, you have not conquered us. We are not your slaves. These lakes, these woods, and mountains were left us by our ancestors. They are our inheritance, and we will part with them to none."
What does he mean by this and do you agree?
