I also chose to speculate on Bonnie and her development of PTSD. One aspect regarding differential diagnosis that I found within my research was diagnostic mistakes made between post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD). According to Cloitre et al. (2014) misdiagnosis can occur between BPD and PTSD. Both developments share a commonality of experienced trauma, However, The Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (5th ed.), better known as DSM-5, states that PTSD is marked by immediate, life threatening trauma, and behavioral/cognitive abnormalities centered on that trauma (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). What do you think would be appropriate in terms of treatment for someone who has a comorbid diagnosis of BPD and PTSD?
