Problem
A. What do you think we mean when we talk about the meaning of life? Do you think there is a meaning of life? Why or why not?
B. Many people find the possibility that we are living inside a matrix to be extremely unsettling and argue that it puts all of reality in question. What does Chalmers think? What does Putnam think? What would Putnam or Chalmers say to the various case studies in A Glitch in the Matrix. Do you ever get the sense that everything might be a simulation? What would Chalmers or Putnam say to you? What do you think are the dangers of society moving more and more on-line. What are the benefits?
C. Nihilism being the position that there is no meaning of life. Explain Nagel and Taylor, by making posts that compare and contrast Nagel's perspectivism and Taylor's turn to creativity. Help the class evaluate Nagel and Taylor by composing arguments supporting their positions or critiquing them. Contextualize the readings as a response to Camus by posting arguments about whether either of Nagel or Taylor are successful in responding to Camus and/or the threat of nihilism.
