Assessment 1: Children's Mathematics
Assignment 1 involves writing an individual report that provides answers to the following questions.
What do you think the big ideas in mathematics are?
And what might they be for young children?
How is mathematics usually represented by, and to, people?
What have you seen, read, or heard, of mathematics and young children?
How do you think you would develop mathematics for young children, and why?
In order to help you in your writing, read: A Good Start to Numeracy. It is very easy to read and understand. Other readings are on the Unit site under the Resources tab.
Your report should be in prose, with corect English spelling and grammar. Do not use abbreviations. Do not use an American spell-checker. If you need to check a word, for meaning or spelling, use the Oxford Dictionary of English, not other pseudo-dictionaries of English. It is available on-line.
