Seven individuals have come to various emergency rooms in the city (Bayside Hospital, Valley Hospital, and Kennedy Hospital). Most have reported being tired and weak. Four individuals went to Bayside Hospital (Screech, Jessie, Kelly, Lisa, and AC), each presenting with nausea and vomiting for the past couple days, as well as diarrhea. Kelly has also had headaches and muscle aches.
Ms. Bliss went to Kennedy Hospital complaining of coughing (sometimes with blood and mucus) and muscle aches.
Mr. Belding and Zack went to Valley Hospital, both suffering chest pain and shortness of breath, in addition to fatigue and coughing.
All of these individuals had reported attending a 1990's Television Star Conference at the Max Hotel in Los Angeles and that this conference ended one full week ago.

Guest capacity of Max Hotel: 450
Number of attendees staying at Max Hotel: 150 (Lisa, Kelly, and Richard stayed at Max Hotel)
Ms. Bliss, Zack, Screech, and AC stayed at the Malibu Sands Beach Club, a ten minute walk from the Max Hotel.
Conference attendees were from all over the world.
Local public health authorities, including epidemiologists (you!) have been called to investigate
1. List all questions you would ask the patient(s). Then, state why you are asking these questions.
2. What must you do to get in touch with the other conference attendees?

5. For the healthcare providers in this class (e.g. residents, nurses), what tests would you run on the patients and why?
6. What do you think is the disease culprit here and why?
7. How would each case be treated? If they are not treated, what is/are the possible outcomes?
8. What recommendations must be made to the general public, as well as those hotel guests and conference attendees?
