Assignment
Be aware that the beginning of this assignment is purposely vague. Think of general ways to approach the problem and specific solutions to possible causes until given further data. Be as thorough as you can.
Scenario: Imagine you are a biological researcher and during the course of your research, you discover a new disease. How would you attempt to treat the disease?
• Step I: What is(are) the problem(s) in the scenario above?
• Step II: Give multiple approaches to solving the problem. There are multiple levels of possibility and complexity here. Be as specific as you can given your limited information.
• Step III: Give multiple possible solutions to the problem. These solutions will, in some cases, be dependent on the collection of more data.
• More information: Upon further research, you discover this disease does not run in extended families, tends to be more of a problem in areas near a particular body of water, and the infected people were recently exposed to water contaminated with coliform bacteria.
• Step IV: Given the data above, evaluate each solution thoroughly.
• Step V: Evaluate the impact of one of your possible solutions. What do you think is the best way to treat this disease? How would your treatment option impact the disease and those infected?
• Step VI: Analyze your thinking throughout the problem-solving process. How did your solution(s) change as you thought about the problem from multiple angles?
