Iodine solvent was added to a test tube. It is solid and nonpolar. When water was added, it turned from clear to ayellowish-brown. The mixture was immiscible. Hexane was added andthe mixture separated into two layers, one yellow-broen and oneclear. When it was shaken the clear hexane turned purple. The hexane dissloved the solid iodine but the solutions were still immiscible and in teo layers. the polar hexane dissolved thenon-polar solid, yet still immiscible with water. what do you think is occuring at the atomic/molecular level? write a chemical equation for the process. Why did this phenomenonoccur?
