Question: What do you think constitutes American Literature during this early period? The writers that we're looking at during this period (except the Native Americans) were not born in the U.S., and they are from many different countries, speak many different languages, and have many different reasons for coming to the U.S. Thus, why do you think they're considered "American" literature?
