POVERTY AND WEALTH FORUM
We will begin our class discussions on Poverty and Wealth, a broad topic to be sure. I want you to view a series of videos from YouTube which run anywhere from 3 minutes to about 20 minutes each in length. As you are watching, I want you to jot down your questions and observations for discussion. At the end of all this, I will be asking a closing question.
Videos are all in www.Youtube.com
Wealth Inequality in America (pay attention to the 7%, end of the middle class?)
Banned TED Talk: Nick Hanauer "Rich people don't create jobs"
Poverty and Brain Development
Child Poverty in the U.S. (a CBS 60 Minutes presentation)
The U.S. Welfare System's Transformation and Its Future
Free Lunch, Corp Welfare, Bill Moyers and David Clay Johnston
Closing Question:
"What do you think can be done to solve the social problems of poverty?" (Yes, poverty is a problem but that does not mean we should tolerate it. How about the OPPORTUNITIES we have to end it?) Remember: there is no such thing as problems, only opportunities that lead to solutions.
