Describe the city that Glaucon calls the "City of Pigs"? Sokrates calls it the "true city." Is Socrates is joking? (For your benefit, it would probably be helpful to argue all sides of this argument: In what way should we take Sokrates seriously, and attempt to uncover the right form of community in the polis Sokrates describes as the "true" one?
And then, to the contrary, in what way does Socrates' "true city" misses the mark, and describes something less than a real city?
Moreover, what do you make of Glaucon's criticism? Is it really true that a city requires the diversity and abundance that Glaucon demands?
