Problem
The continental glacier that covers most of Greenland has been steadily melting as our planet continues to warm. NASA has been monitoring the loss of ice from Greenland since the 1970s using techniques including satellites and airplane flights that are detailed in the vide:
Greenland Ice Sheet video
As you watch the video, notice the scale bar that shows up periodically to show the amount of elevation of ice loss since 2003 (the purple color is 36 meters of ice loss which is about 120 feet).
Describe the general direction the ice melt flows in relation to the ocean. What do these patterns of ice melt flow remind you of?
Using your new knowledge of glaciers gleaned from this chapter, describe how a glacier flows, including examples of the following glacial processes and features: plastic flow, crevasses and basal slip.
