There are many things that affect the way a relationship carries on and what causes certain types of interactions within those relationships. One of those elements that explains certain types of interactions between individuals is behavioral contingency. Behavioral contingency is a concept of contingency. Malott & Shane (2014) explain that a contingency exists between two people such as when someone is crying from being emotional distraught. When one individual is crying another person will attend to that person which is the result. Contingent is considered to be a casual relationship and must be caused by something (Malott & Shane, 2014). An example would be to get promoted at work is contingent upon hard work and more. When discussing the subject of contingency it seems to be a subject closely related to cause and effect. What differentiates the two ideas, cause and effect and contingency?
