The objective of this course is to introduce you to both the theory and practice of advertising. We will consider the evolution of the advertising industry from its beginning as a means of selling ad space in newspapers, to its current role as a critical factor in the development of long-term brand equity, and a ubiquitous force in contemporary culture.

Throughout this semester we will also cover the advertising process, advertising planning and creative development, media planning, and integration of advertising with other promotional functions in order to help companies reach short term goals and objectives while building/maintaining long term brand equity.

As Marketing majors and consumers yourselves, it is crucial that you understand the power, scope and purpose of advertising as both a business tool and a significant force in American cultural.
