Preparing the homework
I. Follow these guidelines when completing this homework. Speak with your faculty member if you have questions.
1) Select a Speak Up brochure from The Joint Commission website.
2) Write a short paper reviewing the brochure. Use the Grading Criteria (below) to structure your critique and include current nursing or healthcare research to support your critique.
II. Include the following sections
1) Introduction of brochure
a) Includes brochure title
b) Identifies date published
c) Describes individuals or groups
d) Brochure properly cited, included on reference list, and submitted with homework
2) Summary of article
a) Main topics discussed
b) Includes information to promote communication between patients and healthcare providers
3) Evaluation of brochure
a) Supported by evidence from a recent (5 years) scholarly, nursing journal article
b) What was done well, and what could have been improved in the brochure?
c) Why did this topic interest you?
d) Was the information provided in the brochure beneficial? Could you incorporate it in your patient education?
e) Was the information presented clearly?
f) Did current nursing or healthcare related research support the information presented in the brochure?
g) What population or individuals does this article apply to (i.e., who will benefit the most from this brochure)? Who else can use this information?
h) Will this information increase patient safety? Defend your answer.
4) Conclusion
a) Restates main ideas
b) Includes supporting information from body of paper
c) Summarizes the benefits of following the brochure's advice to a person at risk
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
(1) The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
(2) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
