The field of Human Resource Management (HRM) is an ever-evolving discipline that helps organizations maximize its use of human resources while minimizing risk related to human resources. There are various functional areas of HRM including: recruitment and selection, labor relations, training and development, performance management, safety and health, and total rewards. HR professionals must have a firm understanding of each of these functional areas in order to effectively utilize the organization's most valuable resource: people. Introduce International Human Resource Management (IHRM), however, and one must now consider the HR implications in an international sense.
