While facility management (FM) is generally a well understood profession, the role of facility managers as business leaders needs some marketing. Facility managers are responsible for promoting the safety of the organization and must not sacrifice that duty by failing to take an unpopular stand just to market the department. Facility managers cannot use their staff to market the department; they alone must perform this marketing task. Facility management (FM) is a service and simply managing the successful delivery of that service naturally results in good customer perceptions of that service.
