Consider why the root for "author" is the same as the root for "authority." How does authority, viewed this way, differ from our common perception of "authority" in a bureaucratic or militant way?
In a persuasive argument, YOU are the authority. What puts YOU in a good position to give this speech? Why should people listen to YOU? What background, experience, perspective do YOU have that will motivate others to listen?
