Kreeft, Fundamentals of the Faith, pp. 13-109, Catechism, para. 26-49, Hauser, "A Theology of Catholic Education" and watch the Baron video on faith and reason. Answer the follow questions using the readings. Quote them in places to support what you say. Be sure to answer all of the questions completely.
A. How does the Catechism describe the act of faith? In what way does the faith reflect human nature? What does the Catechism say is the purpose of human life? Is faith irrational? Why does the Catechism mean when it speaks of ways of knowing God? What sort of knowledge is that? What are apologetics and how do they help one to understand this relationship between faith and reason? (Use Kreeft, Hauser, and the reading from the Catechism to help answer these questions.) What is Fr. Barron's explanation of the relationship between faith and reason?
B. What are the arguments from design and first-cause found in Kreeft? How might they influence one to believe in God? What is the argument from history? Does it work? What does it tell one about the nature of the faith?
C. What is the relationship of faith and truth? What does Hauser say about this relationship? What does this truth enable the person of faith to do? What happens to those who do not live in the truth? What is the relationship of truth and freedom? Can one be free without the truth? What does this mean? What might Little say about the need for truth in life? Would she describe the both/and way of living as being free? Explain.
D. What makes Christianity a unique religion? How is it different from Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam? What is the New Paganism? What challenges does it pose for Christianity?
