Essay Problem
For this essay, you should begin by reviewing Nabokov's "Good Readers and Good Writers." Then choose a scene or passage from One Hundred Years of Solitude that captured your attention. Now, using what you learned from Nabokov's essay, reread the scene or passage. After considering the passage "in loving and lingering detail," what do you see? Where do "notic[ing] and fondl[ing] the details" lead you?
What argument about your reading can you present? In what way does the passage that you have chosen contribute to the meaning of the novel as a whole? Formulate a thesis about your reading that draws a conclusion about this part of the text as well as a conclusion about the text as a whole. Be sure to use the evidence that leads to your conclusion to support your argument.
