Problem
The debate over whether or not business goals should serve as a compass has been going on for quite some time. As a result of shareholders' and stakeholders' constant drive to enhance their capital and earnings, CSR and shareholder/stakeholder requirements and interests don't always align. That could have a financial impact on the organisation but typically run counter to social goals and concerns, such as lowering the unemployment rate or minimising environmental harm caused by the company's actions or an antitrust event.
