If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives.
1 John 1:8-10
1. What are your thoughts about the devotional?
2. We live in a world where it seems like lying, cheating, and bad behavior is required. How do we guard ourselves from falling into this trap?
3. What can we do to ensure we always avoid mistakes of the heart?
4. Recall Jesus's lesson about casting the first stone. He was truly the only one who could have cast the first stone and He did not. He said, "Go and sin no more". This should be our admonition as Christians. However, there is earthly justice or discipline if you will. How should we treat those who commit violations of the rules or laws? Consider this from two vantage points.
One way is errors of the heart and mistakes of the mind.
Second, internal issues such as policy matters and then from an enforcement perspective. For instance, what if an officer never arrested or charged anyone but instead said just do not do it again.
