Case study: Newborn You receive a call about JR a 15 day- old male. The staff says the caller stated, "my baby looks yellow". JR was in the office for a weight check 7 days ago, accompanied by his anxious mother. You scan your notes and see that mom was breastfeeding at hospital discharge. At the weight check (7 days ago) JR had gained 7 ounces from his birth weight of 7.5 lbs (3.5 kg) and 0.5inches. At the weight check the LPN documentation states there was no indication of jaundice His length at birth was 20 inches (50cm) and HC 13.5 inches (34.5cm). The 2- day visit indicates that mom was breastfeeding and was an anxious 1st time mother. Her mother accompanied her to the visit. JR was at birthweight; breast feeding was observed and you documented good technique and appropriate bonding.
