Here is a scenario please determine how best to handle this situation. Note the patient can be anyone you choose when answering the question "Who is the patient" and "What are their cultural norms"?
A patient in the cardiac step-down unit is visited by far more people than are allowed to visit the unit, and the staff expresses frustration.
They also bring the patient a large amount of food. Who is this patient? What are the norms within their cultural heritage regarding family involvement in patient care? What resources will help the staff understand the cultural heritage of the patient?
What resources are available in your home community to help new immigrants who are seeking health care and/or social services?
Are there differences in the ways the new immigrants can access the health care system?
