One of the milestones of the Early Childhood period is when a child begins to attend school. One of the requirements for a child to enter public school in the United States is that they have received and are up to date on their childhood vaccinations. Whether or not to vaccinate children is a hot topic in US Healthcare. Please engage in a thoughtful discussion this week on childhood vaccinations. Discuss the Immunization Schedule that has been developed by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Discuss what vaccines are required for a child to be admitted to public school in New York State. What are the guidelines for safely vaccinating a child? What are the reasons for vaccinating children? What are some of the public health implications for un-vaccinated children? Are there are risks or side effects associated with vaccinating children? What are your personal thoughts and feelings on vaccination of children?
