Problem: What are the common ethical challenges that are highlighted in this case study. Ahealthy 55 year-old woman received a 23andMe® genetic test kit for Christmas from her husband. She has no personal history of any major health issues or family history of any genetic conditions but does have a family history of cancer. Her paternal grandmother reportedly died from ovarian cancer at age 63. This healthy 55-year-old woman has two healthy daughters, ages 25 and 23. Because of her family history of ovarian cancer, she was excited to pursue the 23andMe® health test to learn whether she carries a BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 pathogenic variant. She had additional motivation for testing, her 25 year-old daughter was about to get married and was planning on starting her family very shortly after her wedding . The patient's results are returned within a week and half after she submits her sample.
