1: Share your college degree plans, briefly explain what degree you are pursuing, why, and how you think taking course will assist you in achieving your personal or professional goals in life.
2: At some point in your working life, you've likely dealt directly or indirectly with an HR professional. This could have been a simple phone call to set up an interview, the interview itself, or perhaps as part of the new hire on-boarding process. For some, dealing with HR may have occurred at work for some reason or another. Describe an experience you've encountered with an HR professional. Describe the situation with the HR professional; was it a positive or negative experience? Could the HR professional have done anything differently to improve the outcome?
3: For decades Congress has enacted a plethora of employee protection legislation which by design levels the playing field requiring employers to deal more fairly with their employees. Select one federal employee protection law, summarize it, explain why you think this law is necessary, and discuss if you believe the law is accomplishing its intended benefits.
4: Using a search engine such as Google, research a mineral or minerals that are mined in your area. Then read about the process(es) used to mine this mineral. What are some of the safety or environmental concerns associated with this type of mining? In your comments to another student, discuss whether you think the economic benefits outweigh the safety or environmental concerns. If you are unable to find information on mining in your area, feel free to choose another area to research.
5: It is predicted that clean water will one day be more valuable than oil. Do you think this is plausible? Why or why not? Summarize some of the threats to clean water. Contrast this to your local water source. Do you know the source of your drinking water (local river, aquifer, or reservoir?). What are possible contaminates where you live?
