Make sure to read about social proof in Influence Chapter 4. Think of a time when you felt pressure to do something you did not want to do (or not do something you wanted to do) because of social proof. The situation can be work-related, it could be related to school (even as a child), or pressure from family. Answer the following questions:
1. Briefly describe the situation.
2. Did you go along with the pressure? Why or why not?
3. Knowing what you know now, would you make a different decision? Why or why not?
4. What are some ways that social proof can help a leader succeed? What are some ways that social proof can derail a leader?
5. Thinking about businesses, with such a strong psychological drive for acceptance, how can a person lead when the vision might go against currently accepted norms?
