Projects:
In this course, there are two projects. The requirements for Project #1 are listed below. The requirements for Project #2 will be provided after Project #1 is completed.
Project #1: For this project, you will prepare a written speechfor your selected topic, along with a single page outline of the key points. Project #1 does not require PowerPoint slides nor an in-class presentation. The requirements for this project are listed below.
• Two Deliverables:
1. A written speech that is 2-3 pages in length.
2. A single page outline of the speech.
• Format:
o Written speech
• 12 point font, Times New Roman.
• 2-3 pages in length. The written speech should be long enough to allow for a 5-7 minute speech, when delivering the speech orally.
• All margins should be set at one inch.
• The written speech should include three main sections, opening, body, and conclusion.
• Any references to sources should be included in the outline, not the written speech.
The opening statement should be brief and draw the audience's attention. Effective openings include any of the following: Stating the importance of your topic, make a startling statement, tell a story, or begin with a quotation that is relevant to the speech.
The body of the speech should focus on three key points about the topic. The first topic covered should be the most important topic.
The conclusion of the speech should also be brief. A successful speech closing should achieve a sense of closure, which informs your audience that you are about to conclude your speech. Effective closings include any of the following: Call for action, refer to the beginning of the speech, summary of your main points, a quote, or a short story.
Exhibits or examples should not be incorporated into the written section, instead, add them to the last page and reference the exhibit # in the written section.
