ASSIGNMENT: Intervention Planning Paper (40 points)
Women diagnosed with Substance Use Disorder
In this assignment you will select a diagnostic category and a specific population that constitute a consumer or client system (e.g., older adults diagnosed with depression, women diagnosed with bipolar disorder, families in divorce) and then formulate an intervention plan based on your assessment of the needs of the consumer system, and drawn from EBPs. Include the following in your intervention plan:
• Who would you include in the intervention process?
o Consider micro, mezzo and macro level intervention targets
o In terms of inclusion, identify which systems, agencies and institutions will contribute to the success of the intervention
• You can choose to base your intervention plan on any of the following practice models as appropriate (ground your thinking in EBP):
o Psychodynamic / Existential
o Emotion-Focused
o CBT, DBT
o Narrative or Solution-Focused
o Crisis Intervention
o MI
o Other intervention (requires prior permission from instructor)
• Clearly describe the proposed intervention procedures.
o Why did you choose this type of intervention?
What are some other way(s) that you could intervene, and why did you not choose those option(s)?
o Who will implement the intervention? (Explain why and how a social work professional can be effective in implementing this intervention with this client/family. Please refer to the scholarly literature to develop your answer.)
o What are the components of the intervention? (See empirical literature related to the intervention.)
o How long will the intervention take?
o What are some barriers to implementing the intervention?
What are some solutions to these barriers?
o What strengths does the client bring to the intervention process?
• Critical Thinking. How will you evaluate your intervention? (Review the empirical literature for reliable and valid measures for the presenting issue. An alternative is to identify treatment outcomes that are quantifiable or improve the quality of life of your client that are qualitatively measured.)
Be specific about what you will track and measure. (e.g. rating the quality of activities per week, frequency of positive / negative thoughts per week).
Why did you choose your evaluation measure(s)?
How exactly will the evaluation be conducted?
• What information will you need to do the evaluation?
• When will the evaluation occur?
• Who will conduct the evaluation?
• What are some barriers to conducting the evaluation?
o What are some solutions to these barriers?
• What issues of diversity and ethics do you think may arise from working with this client?
• How can you address these issues of diversity and ethics? (i.e., what will you do to ameliorate them) (e.g. reference the NASW Code of Ethics, 2008)
o How can you address these ethical challenges? (i.e. what will you do to ameliorate them?)
