Problem
• Given what we know about the effects of anxiety on working memory, what do you think should be the role of high-stakes testing in education? How should we use the outcomes of such tests? Is there anything we can do to preserve useful information gained from tests while ensuring that we fairly assess test-takers abilities?
• The book describes two famous real-life examples of memory deficits, the case of Clive Wearing and the case of H.M. (this one we discussed in class) What are portrayals of amnesia in popular culture? Given what is known about short-term/working memory, how accurately was the representation? What did they get right? What did they get wrong?
