What are our options for a higher seer unit

WRITING ASSIGNMENT

Scenario. You are the project engineer on a shopping mall contract. The contract is just under $10 million and includes several different commercial retail outlets. One of the facilities is a stand-alone branch bank of about 4000sf with the usual lobby space, drive-throughs, counter space and a couple of small manager offices; the bank is about to be dried in.

One day the P.M., Randy Stevens [your boss], finds you and says "Come with me; the bank President wants to do a walk-through and he has some questions." The walk through goes well and the bank president seems pleased with the progress. He does have two questions on the A/C system that are unanswered. His questions:

- "I'm concerned with the air-conditioning system that the plans and specs call for. The architect is specifying a 5-ton heat pump and I'm not sure it can do the job. We have had A/C problems in a couple of other branch banks, and I want to be sure we have the right size and type of unit. Is the spec OK?"

- "I notice that the spec is for a 13 SEER unit. We would be willing to pay for increased energy efficiency if it was cost effective. What are our options for a higher SEER unit and does it make economic sense?"

After the walk-through the P.M. turns to you and says: "Draft a letter for my signature to the bank president that answers his A/C questions; I would like to send it to him by Friday of this week."

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
