Increasingly school districts, post secondary institutions, and corporations are taking steps to recruit and retain staff from diverse backgrounds. This is important in a global economy. For this reason, you will interview someone (e.g. HR Director, Deputy Director, Hiring Specialist, etc) that is responsible for hiring staff. Specifically, you want to determine if the organization (e.g., school district, company etc) has a plan to diversity it's workforce? If so, what does that plan look like? How was it implemented? You will develop between eight to ten questions to ask the expert. Their responses and your readings will inform your understanding of the opportunities and challenges that HR specialists and others encounter.

Below are a few questions you could ask to learn more about the organization's plan:

1. What steps has taken to recruit and retain staff from diverse backgrounds?

2. Do you believe your current workforce mirrors the students/customers you serve?

3. Has your organization considered conducting a survey to determine if staff from diverse backgrounds feel welcomed?

4. What are your long term employment needs?

5. Do staffers from diverse backgrounds stay at long term? If not, why do you believe this is a problem?
