what are lateral meristems where can they be

What are lateral meristems? Where can they be found and which type of plant growth do they promote?

Lateral, or secondary, meristems, are the cambium and the phellogen (also called as cork cambium), tissues from the stem, branches and roots that by mitosis produce other tissues. These tissues participate in the secondary growth of plant, i.e., in the thickening of the stem, branches and roots.
