Project Information
The project includes a written report . The purpose of this project is to perform a an analysis of a country (SPAIN) taking into account both their cultural values as well as their human resource practices/policies. Such an analysis would be similar to part of the analysis you would perform as a manager considering entering a country.
Report Content
I. General Characteristics of the country
A. Location, size, population, language, ethnic groups, religion.
II. Analysis of Values and HRM Practices
A. Values: Hofstede's rankings, Kluckhohn & Strodtbeck values, any information on values and their impact on management, Kwintessial.
B. Workforce and economic conditions within the country:
-standard of living (poverty levels, distribution of wealth),
-literacy,
-education levels (percentages that have elementary, high school and college education)
-skills available -- managerial skills, employee skills, technical skills, etc.
B. Human Resource Management:
-Labor laws
-unions (participation rate, whether they are powerful, are strikes common)
-participation of women in work force,
-cost of labor (compensation -- provide minimum wage and wages in different fields in US dollars,).
III. Analysis and Recommendations (20 points) 5 PAGES TOTAL
A. Benefits and liabilities of operating in that country
B. Recommendations: What type of business do you see in this country (manufacturing, service, etc.)? Is the culture different enough that you think a JV is necessary to operate there? What HR laws limit you if any? Do you think you will have to deal with unions and if so to what degree? What types of management practices might you implement given their cultural values?

For the HR Information as well as compensation use the EIU country commerce reports:
Go to the library and click on off campus access and sign in with your email and password. Under research tools at the top, go to research tolos and click on "research start". From here on the left hand side click business. Now you will see two tabs: guides and databases. Click on databases. Now scroll down and find country commerce. Click there and see if your country has a report. This is a very expensive database that we have access to which has outstanding information on countries.In addition if you also click on country reports this is another report created by the EIU with very valuable information.
Within the text the parentheses go within the sentence were you are using the reference...right after the appropriate info:
"Mexico's per capita GDP is $X,XXX (Gomez, 1999; CIA, 2000)."
Then in your list of references (at the end of your report), list the works in alphabetical order:
