Problem
• Suppose that you are an economic advisor to a health team working in a poor country, where 20 percent of the children die of a particular disease. If a health team were to inoculate the population, the disease would cease to be a problem. However, with more people surviving, the country's food supply would become grossly inadequate, and it is estimated that about 20% of the children could die of starvation.
• As an economist with an understanding of scarcity and productive resources, what advice would you give to the health team? What are thebenefits and cost of your policy decision?
