Background: In 2016 Uber acquired OTTO, who had built out autonomous trucks in the Bay area, in an effort to strengthen our efforts within the autonomous sector. Combined with the groups working on Uber's autonomous vehicles for the Uber ridesharing platform, these two groups are referred to as UATG - Uber Advanced Technologies Group. Uber sees the autonomous sector as one of the key focus areas for the years to come, and are investing heavily in the sector.
Task: Imagine you were in charge of managing the logistics coordination with UATG suppliers in EMEA, and were responsible for ensuring the products are exported / imported in a timely and cost effective manner to ensure no delays in production. Discuss how you would manage the distribution and tracking of these products in each of the countries the suppliers are based in utilizing the 3PL's and managing the Supplier relationship with their logistics team. Please remember to take the following into consideration:
- How would you manage the logistics with the 3PL and Suppliers? ? Component level?? PO level?
- What additional steps would you take with Suppliers who are providing UATG with DG or Hazmat components?
- When PO's are placed by Supply Chain team, what steps would you take to ensure components are ready to be shipped, once supplier advises they are ready for collection? ? From a Compliance perspective??From a 3PL perspective?
- What risks do you see and how might you mitigate the risk of 3PL and Supplier Interaction?
- What metrics would you be measuring the 3PL on?
